Stories of GOd at work in our community
Yasmin was Baptised at Christ Church on Sunday 29th January 2023.
”I grew up attending a church as a very young child, but I turned away from God shortly after. I became a sure atheist for years following this. However, I began struggling with anxiety and depression since that young age. I ended up in the hospital a few years ago when things became too much. I didn’t think I would live past 21 years old. Until making it to last summer (2022) which was one of the darkest times. I was struggling in an abusive, addiction-fuelled relationship - with no hope in life.
At this low, I was blessed with becoming friends with someone who is a Christian who offered to pray for me (I didn’t believe in prayer but said yes as a nice thought). Literally the next day everything changed - Like a huge light in my life, an immense sense of peace that I’ve never felt before overcame me, and an overwhelming sense of God’s love and presence. I was able to gain the strength to leave that relationship, get unexpectedly accepted on a Masters degree course, and was able to move to Surbiton.
I knew I needed and wanted to discover more about which God it was and because my friend was Christian I tried to go to a Christian church first. Christ Church happened to be first on my list. That first Sunday morning I was wonderfully welcomed into the church - Hearing God’s word and feeling his presence for sure amongst his people I knew God was with us.
I feel like a totally different person compared to only last year. Knowing that Jesus died for my sins and is alive today, I feel hope like never before, I feel so loved, and I have been immensely challenged and changed. Christ Church has been a true family and helped me in so many ways to learn, serve, and continue to grow in faith. I wish to dedicate my whole renewed life to Jesus and continue to walk and grow in this faith.”
