Life events at Christ Church
We would love to welcome you to Christ Church to mark those special events in your life. Please do contact us at the office to arrange a chat with the Vicar to talk about how we can help you.
weddings
Marriage is a wonderful gift from God, and we want to make your wedding day a really special occasion, as you celebrate with your family and friends. We welcome enquiries from those seeking to get married. At Christ Church our weddings are rooted in the reality of God’s love and the Church of England’s teaching on marriage.
Those living outside the parish of Christ Church need to meet certain legal criteria to be married here. To find out more, please contact the church office, or have a look at the Church of England website.
Couples being married at Christ Church are invited to receive some marriage preparation before the special day. This is to prepare them for the commitment of marriage.
Having the right venue to make your vows before God and others is really important, and we believe that Christ Church provides a beautiful space, where couples have been getting married for the last 160 years. Our beautiful stained glass and decorated ceiling provide a stunning aesthetic, and the recent re-ordering of our building provides a flexible space, with a high-quality sound system enabling you to have the music of your choice.
We have a flexible lounge within the church building, where some couples choose to have a glass of champagne with those who attend the service, before heading off to their reception venue, if they are not able to invite all their guests to the main reception.
Christ Church is easy for wedding guests to access – whether locally or travelling from a distance. 20 mins drive from the M25, with street parking, close to bus routes and about a 10-15 minute walk from Surbiton Station (20mins from Waterloo on the fast train).
baptism
Baptism is the way that we make a public commitment to follow Jesus. Baptism is sometimes called Christening, particularly when it’s a baby that is being baptised. Baptisms at Christ Church take place as part of our normal Sunday morning service at 10.30am. We would like families to be attending the church so that they can get to know the church family.
The parents of the children to be baptised are expected to attend a short preparation course which explores the meaning of baptism and the promises they will make during the service.
Christ Church has a built in baptistery for adult baptisms by immersion. These are always exciting occasions for both those being baptised, and for the church family. If you are an adult who has come to faith in Jesus and has never been baptised or had an opportunity to make public your profession of faith, then do contact the office.
funerals
When someone dies, there’s so much to think about and so much to organise. We understand how difficult and stressful this can be, but we can help you say your final goodbye in a way that really helps.
Our ministers will work with you and your chosen funeral director to plan a service that is a fitting tribute to your loved one. This will include choosing from the many options for a funeral or memorial service, selecting suitable music, hymns and Bible readings, and producing orders of service, etc.
Our ministers are available to take funeral services at a local crematorium or in church, and burials at local cemeteries.
If you would like to make arrangements for a funeral at Christ Church, or with a minister from Christ Church at the crematorium, or if you would like some pastoral support and care in your bereavement, please contact the church office, and arrange to talk with the Vicar.
