The Relationship between Christ Church and Emmanuel
This page is the appendix to our parish profile noted under paragraph 2 of page 14.
Emmanuel is the daughter church of Christ Church.
The 2 churches operate largely independently of one another, with an Associate Vicar leading Emmanuel.
The appointment of a new Associate Vicar at Emmanuel is the responsibility of the Incumbent at Christ Church (though the church family at Emmanuel play a full part in the appointment).
There is one PCC for the whole parish (half Christ Church and half Emmanuel).
Each church has 2 Wardens.
Each half of the PCC meets separately for the majority of the year.
There is an explicit understanding that any decision affecting the whole parish requires a majority in both halves of the PCC.
There are 2 meetings each year of the 'joint' PCC chaired by the Incumbent.
Each church makes its own pledge to the diocesan Parish Support Fund.
The previous Incumbent met monthly with the Associate Vicar at Emmanuel for support and prayer.
The churches have worked well together for the growth of the gospel: for instance, running joint confirmation classes and working with Insight to run The Christmas Journey and Easter Experience.
